Foynes to Limerick Road
(including Adare Bypass)
Limerick City & County Council
FOYNES LIMERICK ROAD IMPROVEMENT SCHEME CLOSING DATE FOR COMMENTS ON PREFERRED ROUTE CORRIDOR EXTENDED TO FRIDAY 29TH JANUARY 2016
PUBLIC DISPLAY OF THE PREFERRED ROUTE CORRIDOR
Limerick City and County Council in consultation with Transport Infrastructure Ireland (formerly the National Roads Authority) are working to progress the Foynes to Limerick Road Improvement Scheme.
Public Consultation events took place in relation to four route corridor options in March 2015. The route corridor options, together with the feedback received from the public, have been assessed under the headings of Economy, Safety, Environment, Accessibility & Social Inclusion and Integration. The preferred route corridor for the Foynes to Limerick Road Improvement Scheme has now been selected and is Route Corridor Option 3 (Orange).
The project will provide a high quality road connection between the port of Foynes and Limerick, leading to reduced journey times, improved journey time reliability and improved safety between Foynes and Limerick for all road users. At the same time the option chosen will include a bypass of Adare, thus relieving a major traffic bottleneck on the National Road Network.
The preferred route corridor is indicative and 300m wide, within which the road alignment is likely to be developed. Junction locations and types will be developed during the route development process. The purpose of the public display is to inform the public of the preferred route corridor and to afford the opportunity for the public to engage in the process and to raise queries, concerns and comments for consideration as part of the detailed design of the road alignment within the preferred route corridor.
Public display sessions on the preferred route corridor will be held at the South Court Hotel, Raheen Roundabout, Raheen, Limerick on Tuesday, 1st December 2015 from 2pm to 8pm; and at the Flying Boat & Maritime Museum, Foynes on Wednesday, 2nd December 2015 from 2pm to 8pm.
Drawings and a brochure outlining the preferred route corridor will be available at the public display sessions, the Mid West National Road Design Office and here from the 1st December 2015. The closing date for receipt of comments is Friday, 29th January 2016.
